Changing the Windows XP search to make it look like the Windows 2000 search. (winxp to win2k / win2000 search engine format)

I've really got nothing against the "search assistant" that comes with the Windows XP search, but did they have to make turning on "search system folders" "search hidden files and folders" so difficult?

If you want to revert to the windows 2000 search box, you need to add a string value registry key Use Search Asst set to no, in the windows registry at location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Explorer CabinetState

Can't figure out how to do all that?  I've included the code for two reg files, just copy the following text into notepad:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

"Use Search Asst"="no"

And name the file: make it look like windows 2000 search.reg

Then save, double click on it, and open up windows search, there should be no more search assistant, however you sill have to click: "Advanced options" to turn on all the specific flags, but it's easier this way.

You can turn the search assistant back on by copying:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

"Use Search Asst"="yes"

into notepad and then name it: make it look like windows xp search.reg

then double click on this file to turn the search assistant back on.
