Turning off the pop up balloons in Windows XP (winxp)
You can stop those "word balloons" that pop up in the bottom right hand corner in winxp during certain system events (Network Connected, Low Disk Space, etc) by adding some information to your registry. I purposely made a few small partitions at the end of my hard drive awhile back to store backups of web sites, well after Windows XP was installed, it kept throwing up "Low Disk Space" balloons constantly. Here is how to end them.
Copy this text into a file in notepad:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000
and then name the file: pop up balloons, stop them.reg
Then double click on the file to add the information, then reboot.
To revert back, copy this text into a notepad file:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000001
and then name the file: pop up balloons, bring them back.reg
Then double click on the file to add the information, then reboot.
